Dr. William Kelly is so much like his father, the late Richard S. Kelly Jr., it?s almost unnerving.
He looks like him.
He has that calm demeanor.
And that gentle way.
But when it comes to childhood obesity, a growing and serious health issue, Kelly doesn?t, if you will pardon the pun, sugar-coat his words or his warning.
?I make a point of saying to my patients, ?If you are obese, you will not live as long,? ? says Kelly, 54, a pediatrician at the Fayetteville Children?s Clinic, which was co-founded in 1953 by Dr. John A. Shaw, Dr. William Breeden and Kelly?s father.
Obesity isn?t a pleasant or welcome description of adolescents and children with weight issues.
?But it needs to be said,? Kelly says. ?You need to get their attention.?
